Yesterday was the first day of jumpstart! Jumpstart is a chance for upcoming kindergartners to come to school (Mon-Thurs from 8-12) and get a feel for school and what to expect! I especially love this week because us as teachers get to evenly divide our class for the year. This is a great time for the kids & parents to kind of get their first day jitters over with and walk in on the actual first day of school like a pro 🙂
We want to make it simple for the kids while also doing some phonics and math instruction to see where the children are!
We start off the morning with a “Kinder Survival” sheet where each day they learn how to use a different tool. Yesterday’s was a pencil and we just practiced holding the pencil correctly while tracing dotted lines! We even practiced writing our name! The following days this week will include coloring, gluing and cutting… oh boy. Haha

We also introduce the kids to our phonics instruction, Letterland. We do a letter a day so we only get to A-D. They have been catching on so fast with the letters and what their names are!

We work on math during the afternoon and have been doing a number booklet each day focusing on a number! We’re just doing 1-4 this week. By the time math wraps up it’s time to go! Shorter days but very beneficial because I can already tell a difference in the kids from day 1!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask! I’ll be doing a post soon about the first week of school 🙂
