I feel like the craziness of Kindergarten never really settles down haha, so I wanted to share some of my favorite activities we did the first week of school! This week I really wanted to focus on making my students feel comfortable in the classroom and having fun!
One of my favorite activities we did was “Our Class is a Family”. I read the book “Our Class is a Family” and it is PRECIOUS! This is one of my favorite books I have for the beginning of the year. After we read the book together, I asked my kids what are some things we can do in our classroom to make it feel like a family. Some of the answers I got just melted my heart, “Help a friend feel better if they are sad”, “Include everyone when we play outside” and so many more! After we had our discussion, I gave each student a sticky note to draw one thing they can do to make our classroom feel like a family. Here was the results 🙂

Another great activity we did was counting how many letters we have in our name! This was a fun way to start off math and good practice putting the letters in their name in the correct order. Such an easy prep activity and the kids LOVED coming up to the board to glue their pieces down. Once everyone had a chance to add their name, I asked questions such as who has the most letters, the least, the same, etc. They didn’t even know all the math they were actually doing 😉

Our craft that week was one that tied along to the book “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom“. I loved reading this book to my kids because so many of them either already knew it or caught on right away and were so excited to read it with me! This craft turned out SO CUTE. This was another great name writing practice for the kids the first week.

These were just a few of the activities we did during the first week of school! The kids loved them and it was a great start to see where each of my students were. Let me know if you have ever done any of these activities 🙂
